This is some recent development work on the St. George project. I’m still not sure how I want to tackle these two pieces. Oil, watercolor, or all digital. Decisions, decisions….

I really like your watercolor-digital approach, every piece you do with that technique amazes me.

Nice drawings, really nice.
Love the cathedral-like quality of canyon the second piece. At least that's how I read it with the lighter shape, like a giant window.

I think you should use a technique that will enable you to make a set of serious paintings from these serious preliminary drawings, instead of creating just another two seriously-attractive images. A little more well “oiled” struggle and a little more self-confidence would certainly make two great paintings from these two promising compositions. Anyway, good luck!
Technically, if you use 300lb hot press watercolor paper taped to foam core, you could do some beautifully well-layered washes in watercolor, then seal it with Acrylic Matte Medium. Then you can use oils for the rest and digital for any touch-ups or add-ins! 😀

I love your watercolor/digital stuff, probably even more than your oils. But where's the challenge in doing something you know you can already do? I'm with Petar, strive for new heights!
Additionally that open eye is terrifying.
OIL!! You already have your under painting with such strong sketches. Why do I always feel for the dragon…that open eye is quite unsettling.
The sketches are all very strong. They're a lot better than what I can draw.
Justin, you are a wizard! I think the first one is my favorite, but they are both amazing – they would make a great diptych!
As far as medium goes, I loved the look and feel of the recent Harry Potter piece you did with watercolor and inks. I think a similar effect would work well in these pieces.
In the mean time, I will be studying them both to unlock the secrets of your artistic magic…

And like ces, I must agree with Petar and Dan about the oils. I will definitely be painting one of these in oil. I may try the other in watercolor and ink to see the difference. I'll post more progress shots from these when I'm up again on the 12th!
All watercolour!! Or maybe a bit of ink too, it will look traditional and detailed and spectacular!!!! Like it does now, but with colours!! xx

Love all three versions. The last one made me think this is what Bernie Wrightson's Siegfried poster would have looked like translated to an animated film. Even in it's quiet after the action setting that scene looks like a living part of a story or film. Just great.
This looks insane… And there it is again this feeling that I still am just at the start of learning. Damn, I wish I have had a good artschool to visit… T_T I hope to see some step by step pictures of how you continue.
