I’ve taken to the habit of streaming a lot of documentaries from Netflix while I paint. Aside from alleviating some boredom when I’m whittling away at something really late at night, it’s also a great way to learn about new things while I work.
A few months ago I stumbled across a documentary called “The Pixar Story“. Not only does this documentary cover the origins of the Pixar company, but it covers the history of animation in general, especially as it pertains to technological advances. I’ve watched it several times now, and the film still amazes me… honestly, amazing. It is a truly great watch if you’re looking for something to inspire you.
Below are two clips of the documentary, totaling just 20 minutes of what is a 90 minute film. Out of respect for our fellow artists, I implore you to find the rest of the film through more legitimate means, such as Netflix or Amazon. The documentary was originally included as a bonus film on the special edition release of Wall-E, which can you buy for just $13.
I’m sure we’ll discuss more inspiring films here in the future, but if you’re looking for another one immediately, I also highly recommend “Between the Folds“. Hands down, one of the best documentaries I’ve seen in years.
I saw this on CNBC of all places, last year. It's a fascinating and wonderful documentary. Who knew Lasseter and Tim Burton were dormmates and buds?! haha π
Ooh, another documentary junkie:) TED talks are pretty addicting too. Thanks for the recommendation!
First night back from Massachusetts I checked out Between the Folds. It's pretty wild. Protein folding to target specific diseases?!
Speaking of things I listen to while working… when is Muddy Colors going to make its own podcast leap? Maybe just one a month or bi-monthly? I know you guys are busy folks but I can dream, right?
Anyhow, love this documentary and also netflix streaming in general. I would also highly recommend This American Life as well for those not familiar with it.
I taped this off the Starz channel last year. It's such a great documentary – and fun to see how Pixar evolved over the years.
