In the summer of 1986, Illustrator, Greg Spalenka had the rare opportunity to spend ten days in the gym of legendary boxing trainer Cus D’Amato.
Over those ten days, Greg documented, interviewed, photographed and painted a then young, up and coming boxer… by the name of Mike Tyson.
When all was said and done, Greg had produced hours of recorded interviews, dozens of polaroids, and 15 paintings, 5 of which are life-size.
On November 11th, Heritage Auctions will be auctioning off the entire collection. As usual, the HA site has wonderful high resolution scans of all the art. To check out more of the work, or to bid on it, go HERE.

Awesome rusty paintings.
I find boxers to be probably one of the most fascinating athletes to draw/paint, more so than baseball, basketball, soccer, etc.
