It seems that most artists are pretty well educated in the ‘classical artists’ that came before them, simply because history has already curated them all for us, so you only have to be familiar with a handful of them. Contemporary artists, on the other hand, often slip under our radar simply because of quantity or unfamiliarity with a certain genre. So I thought I’d take a minute to share one of my favorite painters and peers, Coro Kaufman.
Coro Kaufman is best know as one of the founding members of Massive Black studios and has worked on some of the most influential movies and games of the last decade. Even if you don’t know Coro by name, you’ve almost certainly seen his work.
Aside from concept art, Coro is also a prolific painter in his spare time. In addition to maintaining a family and a full-time job, he still manages to produce a large number personal pieces that are the envy of many a professional, myself included.
Coro recently updated his website with a lot of new work spanning a variety of subjects, all presented as high resolution scans. As I was looking through it, I felt the work was just too good not to share.
Attached is a very small sampling of Coro’s work. I implore you to take a look at his website and peruse it all. Enjoy!
Coro is amazing. I love it as well that he lets his kid paint on his works.
Beautiful work, thanks for sharing Dan.
Gorgeous paintings.
4 of Coro's works are currently on display at the John Pence Gallery in San Francisco, in the Landscapes show. They are even more amazing in person!
He inspires me because of his work ethic, his motivation, and his willingness to push forward and pursue an exceptionally broad range of mediums, with a sincere focus on figuring out how do it to the best of his abilities, and then surpass the professional standard and bring something new to the medium each and every time. If you don’t know Coro’s work, whether you know it or not, I guarantee his fingerprint has touched something you’ve seen.
