I’ve gone and illustrated a children’s book! This was my first kids’ book and was deeply meaningful to me.  If you’re interested in a retelling of the history of how Thanksgiving came to be a national holiday that includes the Native perspective (for readers in grades 2-5 or anyone older interested in a good overview), you can order Scholastic’s “If You Lived During the Plimoth Thanksgiving” by Chris Newell from your local independent bookstore! The artwork is done in 9b pencil with digital watercolors, a technique I developed working on my personal comic project.

I snuck my dad into the book – he’s in the parade on the last spread, wearing a baseball cap, above the letter D. He walked on in February 2020, and never got to hear about this book, but he would have been so proud.
