Inspiration : Absolution

Wednesday, July 17th, 2024

James Vandermeer, the Author of the highly successful novel ‘Annihilation’, recently announced a surprise fourth novel in the book series. The series, which one might categorize as ‘biological horror’, has garnered a lot of attention since it’s Hollywood adaptation staring Natalie Portman.

With the release of the new novel, and subsequently new cover art, the publisher decided to also re-release the previous 3 books in a hardcover edition featuring all new cover art as well.

James Vandermeer’s books have always had unusually stellar covers in my opinion, but this for whatever reason, I particularly love these new ones. They evoke a sense of nature, but distorted into an odd mix of beauty and horror. A perfectly apt representation of the novels themselves.

The cover artist/designer is Pablo Declan, a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, and one of Forbes ‘30 under 30‘ of 2017.

The first 3 books release later this month, followed by the new installment in October.

These are beautiful covers, and I love how the illustrations are animated on Vandermeer’s website. Cool all around, thanks for sharing!
