Ah, it’s that time, yet again! The time of year when I start thinking about just what sort of calendar will I get for the next year?

Actually, I probably should’ve done this earlier because mid-November is cutting it kind of close, isn’t it? Maybe not too close but still. It’s a little close.

Either way, speaking as someone with a tenuous grip on time and projects (particularly these last several months) one thing is for certain: I need an actual, physical calendar on a nail on a wall in my studio. I’ve found that if I don’t write something down with my own hand it will simply evaporate from my mind. Dew in the morning sun. Vapor. The best laid plans and I forget the rest.

No amount of meaning to remember will ever help me. Only the scrawling sharpie will do.

And maybe that’s you too. But if not, you can probably still get some enjoyment out of seeing just what calendars I’ve rounded up here!

Charles Vess

What’s there to say about the works and worlds of Charles Vess that hasn’t already been said? His work is some of the most personally resonant, for me. And in fact, I tried a few years back to string some words together in a post here. Charles has a new 2025 calendar featuring works from Peter Pan.

And hey, they’re signed, too!

Jessica Roux

A gorgeous collection featuring the fantastic works of Jessica Roux. A varied and diverse array of creatures great and small, along with their accompanying mystical significance, her work always strikes this wonderful balance of feeling grounded and truly magical.

Gallery Gerard

Justin and Annie need no introduction around here! As it happens, I got one of each to see which would ultimately win out as my next calendar. Sorry, Justin. 2025 looks to be a real Veil of Secrets kind of year for me!

Omar Rayyan

Omar’s calendars are always a spectacular sight and they sell out! In fact, each year I’ve done a calendar round up I’ve been too late and they’re out of stock. But hey, you’re in luck! I may be running late and behind on everything else but I got these posted while they’re still around. Enjoy!

John Howe: Tolkien 2025

And yet another legendary illustrator who needs no introduction around here! Wish I could have tracked down some more images to see just what work was included in this one but you can hardly go wrong with more John Howe in your life.

Odd Rabbits

It’s possible I missed out on sharing this one but I liked it so much I wanted to include it anyway! Looks like Marlowe’s shop is closed for the next few weeks but I loved the shapes, colors, and style of these Riso printed calendars I had to show them off.

Kinuko Y. Craft

I’ve often used Kinuko’s calendars as my own! In fact, her 2024 is my current one. I simply adore her work.

The Landmark Project + Rudy Wendelin

One of the all-time greats and a real American hero. Am I talking about Smokey Bear or illustrator Rudolph Wendelin? Yes!

Here’s hoping that once 2025 actually rolls around I’ll be back on track and finally gotten a handle my own project calendar and schedule! This year has truly run away from me and I’ve been sprinting to keep up. But hey, at very least I’ve got a calendar to chronicle the race.
