Justin Gerard is an illustrator who has traveled the world in search of the perfect medium to paint in. He has not found it, but along the way he has met some fascinating people, seen some interesting places and had a chance to paint a lot of great subjects.
His work has been featured in Spectrum Fantastic Arts, Society of Illustrators and Expose. He enjoys good music, chocolate chip cookies and tank battles.
Ooooh yeeeah! But the question is, will you go see it in 48fps as it was intended by PJ? I know i will 🙂
I've been waiting literally all year for this one. 3 more days here in Europe and counting.
Maybe if it had some dwarves in it………
imax it is
🙂
Super-excited. I am going to make a solid Hobbit breakfast for my friends then we are going to go watch it.
The Rankin-Bass animated still owns my heart. Brother Theodore's Gollum, John Huston's Gandalf and Richard Boone's Smaug voice work still get me jazzed. As corny as it was I loved the presentation of the music and of course, I really loved the art direction on that Rankin stuff as well. My experiences with that film is what sparked my love of illustration and what made me read Tolkien for the first time. The first real book I read for recreation was probably The Hobbit.
CANT WAIT!!!!!! Got my midnight tickets weeks ago! Awesome drawing by the way. Keep it up Justin, you rock!
so very excited!!
Eyebrows beyond the brim! I love it!
With a bent knee to CBE Tolkien and a hats' off to Messieurs Lee & Howe ~ I must humbly submit that I find Justins' Gandalf a work of true Wizardry!
And like the comments above I hear it's not only in 3D, but, to be in – Trilogy.
Thanks for ALL the Great posts & Art as always!!!
DO have a Great Week!
Why Peter Jackson didn't get Paul Bonner on the phone I'll never know!

I loved the Rankin-Bass take on Smaug. Really original with the catlike head, eyes sending out search beams, and he was furry if my memory is correct. A really unique beast. The topper was having Richard Boone as the voice actor. Frankly I wonder how Peter Jackson will be able to make a talking Smaug work. What can be done in a cartoon will prove much more difficult in a live action film, I think.
lol, it actually does have a couple, only not as good as yours, sir 😉
