We are sad to report that Everett Raymond Kinstler died last week due to heart failure at the age of 92.
Kinstler, whose name is synonymous with Portraiture, was a giant in the industry, having painted official portraits of numerous U.S. Presidents, including Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton. The National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. houses more than 80 works by Raymond Everett Kinstler.
That’s what it’s all about, telling a story about the person, not judging them. That I leave up to somebody else.
Prior to his focus on portraiture, Kinstler had a long and successful career as both a comic book artist and a commercial illustrator, art forms for which continued to hold a great deal of respect for for the remainder of his life. Despite his prestigious status as a portrait artist, he never shied away from his ‘commercial’ past, and often cited illustration as his reason for pursuing art in the first place.
A Husband, Father, Artist and Teacher… Raymond will be missed by many.
The camera records a moment. The painter makes a statement.
