One of my favourite ways to waste time get inspired is to go on Pinterest and look at fashion design. Beyond obviously being works of art in their own right, I find that fashion can also be a great source of inspiration for illustrations. From the fit and material of an outfit to small embellishments and details, what a character wears in an illustration can tell us a lot about them. Clothing can also be used to create interesting shapes and value structures within an image, and be a way to introduce pattern and texture. Taking inspiration from fashion to create unique and unexpected outfits can often add just that extra touch of detail to your illustration. And so today I wanted to share a few random images I’ve collected on Pinterest, if only to remind myself to pay more attention to fashion in my own work!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this roundup, and feel inspired to explore fashion in your work! I leave you with this absolute gem I found while gathering images for this post:
Love them all, been following Iris Van Herpen for a while now and her garments and how she displays them transport you to another dimension! It’s no wonder her garments take center stage of movies these days now too.
But I got to the last one, and I have to just ask, what the duck??
